It seems like getting a young person in this day and age to WANT to go to college isn’t as easy as it once was. With the economic recession paying for college is even more difficult for parents who do have kids that want to go on to college. Financial Aid is a must for most, however in addition to government aid and student loans parents and students need to become more diligent in seeking out scholarships. There are hundreds if not thousands out there, however you have to find them, they won’t come looking for you.

Looking to send someone off to college next fall? Hurry, time’s running out to apply for a $2,500 Upromise Scholarship. Due by February 15, applications are being accepted for 2010-11 scholarships aimed at assisting 100 undergrads with financial need.

Applicants, or their parents must be a member (or quickly become a member) of Upromise (joining is free), have a minimum 3.40 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent), prove a household income of $80,000 or less, be a US citizen and a high school senior, high school graduate or current college student who plans to enroll in a two or four-year accredited college, university or vocational tech school.

Complete guidelines for eligibility and application can be found here

You can also help the cause by becoming a “fan” of Upromise on Facebook. The company has pledged to donate $1 to the scholarship fund for every new fan (up to $25,000).

  1. it astounds me to hear people complaining about the terms of the money YOU borrowed. Pay your debts back; work two jobs, have some honor to be responsible in your lfie instead of pointing to “big corporations” victimizing you. I have no sympathy for these people.

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog.

  3. I keep listening to the news speak about getting free online grant applications so I have been looking around for the best site to get one.:)

Well, we pretty much already let anybody get into college who wants to, and because they have been taught in high school to expect top grades, to pass, too. And since it is obvious to even the right that the only path to success is through college, we MUST give everybody a college degree, too. And we might as well pay for it, while we’re at it. At this point the Obama Administration and Congress have foregone any pretense about fiscal responsibility. It’s government takeover time, and sock it to the taxpayer, as they redistribute our hard-earned dollars to those who haven’t earned them, with a 30% rakeoff for themselves.

  6. The Scientific Method consists of observation and repeatable experimentation. Creation, by definition, was not observable by anyone within the bounds of this universe. And it is beyond our power to repeat the experiment. Therefore, the whole debate about origins is a philosophical, not scientific, debate. A basic philosophical axiom is that if your foundational assumptions are wrong, then the conclusions drawn from those assumptions are also wrong. Let’s examine the unprovable, foundational assumptions about each philosophy: Evolution states that in the beginning there was nothing, that became something, got itself organized, gave itself life, and then made itself better. Christianity states that in the beginning there was God, who created the world and everything in it in perfect harmony. Then Adam and Eve rebelled, and sin and death entered the world. But, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16 If you bbelieve in evolution based on faith, because the beginning is not verifiable. I believe in the God of the Bible based on faith, because the beginning is not verifiable. Which belief system requires the greater faith? I only know of One who there at the beginning. I choose to believe His first hand, written account, instead of placing my faith in the assumptions made by those who were not there at the beginning.
